Show Jumping Rules
Horse and rider must complete a series of jumps in the shortest time and with the fewest faults as possible. Unlike in hunters, horsemanship is not a factor of judgement.
Scoring and Placement
Upon entering, the "judge" will take the horses' time and faults. Part of this is at random, but sometimes your horse's breed and personality will be factors. A stubborn or green horse for example would be more likely to refuse a jump, therefore docking its placement. Knocked down fences and refusals are both worth 4 faults.
Reasons for disqualification include a fall of horse and/or rider as well as inappropriate tack. Sport horses will be favored over the other breed categories. A warmblood would most likely place higher than a quarter horse.
